Product Owner & Tech Lead
2023 – Present
Leading an internal venture project to develop differentiated services and products specifically for pets. I am overseeing the End-to-End architecture design and overall development, from hardware devices to software (App/Cloud).
Key Achievements & Responsibilities
- Proposed a new business initiative in the internal new business idea competition, winning the Grand Prize, and was dispatched to the new business team, leading the project from planning to approval.
- Developed an On-Device AI model for collecting pet behavior data using Galaxy Watch (achieving over 90% accuracy in behavior recognition).
- Independently developed Android apps, Wear OS apps, and data labeling apps, and built data collection/pipeline infrastructure.
- Led a multidisciplinary team consisting of designers, developers, and overseas research labs, and designed backend infrastructure based on GCP/Azure.
- Developed a functional device prototype based on Nordic MCU (equipped with Wi-Fi, BLE, IMU + On-Device AI) through collaboration with an OEM partner.
- Currently leading business development through partnerships with pet care companies and the commercialization phase of new hardware products.

Automated Test Platform for Device System Performance (Project Cheetah)

In the System Software team, I designed, developed, and introduced Cheetah, a comprehensive performance automation test infrastructure based on actual devices, to enhance the stability of continuously released firmware.
Key Achievements & Responsibilities
- Built a platform for automated execution of various tests, including benchmarks (firmware download → test execution → change detection).
- Implemented an environment for early detection of issues through a proactive diagnostic system, allowing for easy tracing of root causes (CL).
- Developed a system enabling employees to freely combine components in a web UI to configure diverse test scenarios and understand performance impact in real-time.
- Adopted as the standard infrastructure within the System team, widely used in the development of all Android projects, including flagship devices.
- Significantly improved firmware stabilization speed and issue response efficiency.

Commercialization of Predictive Intelligent Memory Control
System S/W R&D
2021 – 2022
While responsible for app startup and re-entry performance in One UI within the System Software team, I addressed the issue of persistent VOCs related to app force closes (refreshes) caused by the limitations of existing AOSP-based LMK (Low Memory Killer) and Swap (zRAM) policies, which did not adequately reflect actual user app usage patterns.
Key Achievements & Responsibilities
- Collaborated with overseas research labs to develop a TPO (Time, Place, Occasion) based time-of-day app usage prediction solution.
- Analyzed big data from Galaxy users to classify memory usage patterns and enhanced the prediction model, focusing on heavy users.
- Implemented the Personal Memory Manager framework (activity/process management solution) by linking prediction results with LMK and Swap policies.
- Transitioned from a conventional rule-based mechanism to an intelligent predictive memory control architecture.
- Significantly reduced cold-start times for frequently used apps and minimized performance/power waste, leading to its commercialization as a standard solution for the One UI memory management system.

Media & Devices System App Development
MDEP Development Group
2020 – 2021
In the MDEP (Multi Device Experience Platform) Development Group, I led the task of innovating the media control experience within and outside Galaxy devices. I was responsible for the end-to-end Android app development and commercialization, from initial design to product launch, covering media control within the device to D2C device control and casting via SmartThings Cloud.
Key Achievements & Responsibilities
- Designed and implemented from scratch the Media & Devices app, accessible with one depth in the Quick Panel, to address the complexity and bulkiness of the existing SmartThings Panel.
- Integrated the entire flow of Bluetooth D2D (Device-to-Device) device control and SmartThings Cloud-based D2C (Device-to-Cloud) media control and casting.
- Greatly improved the accessibility and user experience of media control within Galaxy devices.
- Successfully commercialized and applied as the standard media control app for One UI, replacing the previous SmartThings Panel.

IoT Product Strategy
2018 – 2019
Responsible for establishing product strategies to expand the IoT ecosystem, I identified promising global IoT devices and formulated strategies for their introduction into the domestic market.

- Sourced promising global IoT devices and conducted technical and business feasibility reviews.
- Pursued partnerships and established lineup strategies for domestic market introduction.
OSHW-based Upcycling Platform Development (Galaxy Upcycling)
C-Lab (MX Business Division, 2nd Batch)
2016 – 2017
In the MX Business Division's 2nd Batch C-Lab, I worked on the Galaxy Upcycling project, recycling used smartphones into new IoT devices. I built an OSHW-based technology platform to realize ESG values and enhance user lock-in.
Key Achievements & Responsibilities
- Reconfigured the existing software stack of used Galaxy devices for OSHW environments like Raspberry Pi, utilizing libhybris and Docker containers.
- Developed a web service enabling makers to freely share firmware, 3D printer images, and schematics.
- Designed H/W accessories for additional hardware expansion via GPIO and developed various use case demos.
- Publicized project achievements through an exhibition at SDC (Samsung Developer Conference).
- Received multiple awards for innovative upcycling models, including the U.S. EPA Cutting Edge Champion Award (2017, 2018) and Environmental Leader Awards Project of the Year (2018).

Commercialization of Intelligent Thermal and Power Control Framework

In the System Software team, I developed and commercialized an intelligent thermal and power control framework that addressed thermal issues, which emerged prominently with AP performance improvements, from a user experience perspective.
Key Achievements & Responsibilities
- Overcame the limitations of the previous approach, which simply read thermistor temperature at the Native layer and limited CPU Max Freq.
- Designed a multi-sensor-based intelligent control architecture that comprehensively considers external temperature, currently running apps, IP activation status (network/camera), and user behavior.
- Developed an Android Framework-level service for fine-grained control with minimal performance fluctuations, focusing on UX.
- Implemented a framework for three-dimensional control of DVFS, CPU Governor, and internal IPs.
- Established tuning guides for each project and collaborated with the HW team to optimize the balance of performance, heat, and power across all projects.
- Adopted as the standard system optimization solution for One UI (Android/Wear OS) and commercialized across all product lines.

Leading Company-wide DB (SQLite) Optimization

I oversaw performance and defect analysis for the company-wide SQLite DB, leading advanced work to decouple from AOSP dependencies, which significantly improved data reliability and app responsiveness for global products.

- Oversaw company-wide DB performance/defect analysis and led overseas research labs.
- Significantly improved Preload app responsiveness by decoupling from AOSP's basic structure and applying WAL (Write-Ahead Logging) mode proactively.
- Ensured data reliability for global products by directly fixing data loss defects during sudden power-off situations at the SQLite engine level.
- Contributed to DB technology standardization through in-house technical training and leading the response to major issues.
TmaxSoft

Led the development of the TmaxWindow OS core and UI framework, taking responsibility for the architecture and implementation of a proprietary UI framework optimized for desktop operating system environments from its initial design.

- Led the architecture design and implementation of TmaxWindow's proprietary UI framework, 'Namjune'.
- Reimplemented the MFC class library for TmaxWindow to ensure application compatibility.

Led the development of SKT mobile platforms and applications, designing and developing a mobile content downloader and explorer based on OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) standards, which were commercialized as core services for the SKT WIPI platform.
